Born in Crete island, Elena Aya Bundurakis (GR/JP) currently lives between Athens and Antwerp, where she recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (MA Visual Arts, Photography). In her books and installations Bundurakis presents variations of images, drawings, haikus and video. Her work focuses on the anatomy of Nature (primal / modern / post nature) and a collective self-analysis. Extracting fragments of her own self and the bodies that surround her, she layers the pure with the artificial and the thirst for something truly crisp with loss and boredom, creating clues. At the end, she aims that these clues combined, can form a full sensation like entering into a blob.
Recent experiences and nominations include Plat(t)form (2018, Fotomuseum Winterthur) and Greek Young Photographers (2017, Athens Photo Festival). Her dummy books ‘Eating Magma’ (Ver. II, 2018) and ‘Looking for Summer in the Middle of My Adulthood’ (2016) have participated in festivals such as Self Publish Riga, Liège Photobook Festival (2018), Φωτοbook dummy awards (2017, 2nd award), and Encontros da Imagem (2016).
